Thandeka Mafila opened her centre in October 2008 after listening to Radio Zibonele. She responded to a plea from a representative from the Khayelitsha Disabled Forum for someone to open a centre for disabled children in the Mfuleni community because parents of children with special needs were phoning the centre in Khayelitsha but transporting of the children was a problem.
She started her centre with 2 children and the numbers grew to 12. There is a likelihood that this centre will grow as Tygerberg & Red Cross Hospitals are referring children to Lonwabo Home now.
This is a day care centre for special need children between the ages of 0 – 18 years. Thandeka cares and feeds the children each week day.

Two physiotherapy students from UWC (University of the Western Cape), Kelly & Nishaat were deeply moved by the current situation at Lonwabo Home and approached NEWKIDZ to assist in helping with this project. We found the centre to be neat and the children are well cared for. The children are currently housed in one room which is too small to do any physiotherapy or other activities.
Her wish list is to:

Jive cool drink and Buildit have sponsored Lonwabo and we look forward to working alongside them on this project!!
Project date: 24th and 25th July 2010

The heart of NEWKIDZ is to bring hope to children who have no voice. Thandeka is standing in the gap for these young ones and our team has seen her good heart. We want to support her by doing this much needed renovation work.
